Matt Trapper Captures CDP Feature; New Colours For Arsenault
Matt Trapper used early gate speed and a powerful finishing kick of :28.3 to win the Saturday feature pace in 2:00.1 during opening night at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park
.
Trainer Brian Andrew engineered the winning trip in the $1,900 event for Matt Trapper's co-owners Bill Andrew, Jim MacPhail and George Roberts of Calgary, Alberta. The seven-year-old Matts Scooter-Cinderella Cam gelding is now two-for-four on this year. Newcomer Armbro Dandelion (Gary Chappell) was second while Blue Star Outlaw (Jason Hughes) finished third.
Gary Chappell recorded a driving double after he opened the program with JM Godess for trainer Stacey Lund and closed out the night with a victory aboard Painted Desert for Tyne Valley owner-trainer Donald Milligan.
The opening meet starts the countdown to the National Driving Championship, presented by RDMD Refrigeration, on Saturday, May 7. Kenny Arsenault, who will represent P.E.I. in the competition, was presented with a new driving suit and helmet in his official colours by Red Shores Managing Director Tom Mullally and Race Manager Brett Revington during a trackside ceremony.
