Christie Signs Race-Date Reduction Bill

It has been reported that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie today signed bills which could see the number of live race dates for Freehold Raceway and Meadowlands Racetrack reduced and the ability to place advance wagers on simulcasted races expanded

An article by Bob Jordan on the Asbury Park Press website explains that operators of Freehold and the Meadowlands will now have the ability to run as few as 75 live race dates per year if they so wish. Prospective Meadowlands lessee Jeff Gural has made his intention of hosting 75 live race dates at the track per-year known.

In regard to simulcasting, Governor Christie today signed a bill into law which would permit wagers to be placed at racetracks or casino simulcasting facilities in advance for races not simulcast at the facility, if the race is simulcast elsewhere in the state.
