Brigham Dream Scores In Mare Trot
Brigham Dream, driven by Luc Ouellette, won the $266,075 Breeders Crown Mare Trot by a half length over Susies Magic in 1:53.2 at Mohawk Racetrack on Saturday night. The time was one-fifth of a second off the stakes record.
Bruschette (Ron Pierce) took the front spot on the backstretch from leader Susies Magic (David Miller). Brigham Dream followed the cover of Flash Lightning (Yannick Gingras) in the outside flow before moving for the lead in the stretch. Susies Magic found room late and chased Brigham Dream to the finish line.
Brigham Dream was owned for the Breeders Crown by Reve Avec Moi and trained by Nicolas Vandenplas. She will be owned by Mike Gulotta's Deo Volente Farm in the future.
"I've been with her since she was born, raised her, weaned her, and trained her," Vandenplas said. "It sure will be sad to see her leave."
Exotic Destination (Mike Saftic) was third and Godiva Hall (Andy Miller) was fourth.
Brigham Dream - Breeders Crown Mare Trot
Runner-up Susies Magic won the 2006 Breeders Crown for three-year-old filly trotters.
"My mare raced really well tonight," driver David Miller said about Susies Magic. "She's always better when she gets a good trip and tonight she was better, even though she gets pretty worked up in the paddock. If she can get out on the track early and has time to settle down, then usually she'll race a lot better and that was the case tonight. I know they've been working with her this past week to get her better at quieting down, and it paid off. She raced really well and was working hard to catch the winner."
Falls For You (Brian Sears), the favorite, made a break behind the gate and was not a factor.
"I have no idea what happened," Falls For You's trainer Trond Smedshammer said.
