Western Bee Stings Foes In Fraser Feature

Five distaffers faced the gate in the featured $12,500 Fillies and Mares Open at Fraser Downs on Sunday afternoon, and fans were treated to a three-across-the-track finish with the longest shot on the board, Western Bee, prevailing

Trainer/driver J.F. Gagne rolled Western Bee to immediate command from post three, and once she crossed over in front of the field she hammered out panels of :27.2, :56.4 and 1:25.1 before using a :29.1 final frame to post the neck decision over the odds-on favourite, With Bells On, in 1:54.2. Jans Rich Girl was a lapped on third.

It was a new lifetime mark for the five-year-old daughter of As Promised-Flaming Princess, who is owned by Ringneck Enterprises Ltd and James Sutherland of Calgary, AB. Sent off at odds of 17-1, Western Bee improved her 2011 record to 2-3-0 in 11 starts while pushing her lifetime earnings to $96,676.
