St Elmo Hero To Race Saturday At Woodbine
St Elmo Hero, who is undefeated in 24 career starts, has been entered into Saturday's $28,000 Preferred 2 Pace at Woodbine Racetrack
.
Illinois owner John Barnard claimed St Elmo Hero out of his first lifetime start for a mere $8,000 on July 14, 2010. Since then the five-year-old son of Western Hero has gone on to earn $202,950 lifetime, while earning a mark of 1:49.1.
"Basically we needed to get a start into him," Barnard said. "He's had roughly four weeks off and we needed to get a start into him. We couldn't have him ready for the Spring Pacing Championship because of a quarter crack that got infected during the time he got sick and was scratched out of the Cam Fella (elimination).
"He trained on Tuesday in 1:57 at Mohawk and appears ready to go. I'm unsure what his short-term plan is for the time being. Right now were going one week at a time but at some point he will return home to Illinois."
St Elmo Hero will begin from Post 6 in the ninth race. Jody Jamieson is listed to drive for trainer Meg Crone.
Also, please note that Woodbine Racetrack will be offering a $100,000 guaranteed pool for its early Pick 4 wager on Saturday.
