Miss Maverick Upsets In WFR Feature
After finishing a disappointing seventh in an elimination of the Damsel Stakes at Woodbine Racetrack on March 11, Miss Maverick rebounded in a big way to take home top prize in Tuesday’s $12,600 Fillies & Mares Preferred
at Western Fair Raceway.
Bruce Richardson mapped out a two-hole trip for Miss Maverick, who was sent off at odds of 21-1 in the seven-mare affair. The pair stalked Notable Beauty through fractions of :27.4, :58 and 1:27 before finding clearance and using a :29.2 final quarter to earn the narrow victory in 1:56.4. Runner-up Jinglejanglejingle’s late rush fell short by a quarter of a length. Sammy Syd came on strong in the late going to pick up third prize.
Ginny St. Charles trains the four-year-old daughter of Western Maverick-Sanfrancine for E C S Racing LLC of Rockford, MI. It was the second trip to the winner’s circle in 2011 for the 11-time winner who has banked $141,449 to date.
