Hat Trick For Frenchfrysnvinegar; Five For Jamieson
It looked as though Frenchfrysnvinegar’s bid for three consecutive victories was in jeopardy in the late stages of her Monday evening assignment at Woodbine Racetrack, but a costly break by a determined challenger in the closing strides allowed her to score the hat trick
.
Frenchfrysnvinegar, who is now 3-for-3 since joining the Lasix program, took a two-hole tuck behind Armbro Chronicle as the field made its way to the quarter pole in :27.1. Jody Jamieson, who enjoyed a five-win night at the office, had Frenchfrysnvinegar on the move in the backstretch and the mare managed to clear just as the half-mile marker was reached in :56.2.
She was still in command at the three-quarter pole in 1:25.3, but Mannerheim was moving well from first over and he began to set his sights on tracking down the mare. He self-destructed when asked to battle with Frenchfrysnvinegar in deep stretch, and that allowed the six-year-old daughter of Angus Hall-Gugus to draw clear in the closing strides. She stopped the teletimer in 1:54.1.
Mannerheim finished second, but was placed sixth for causing interference and for failing to continuously lose ground while off stride. Armbro Chronicle was third-placed-second as a result, and The Principle was fourth-placed-third in the $35,000 Preferred Trot.
Sent off as the 3-2 favourite, the Jeff Gillis trainee improved her 2011 record to 3-2-0 in six starts while boosting her lifetime earnings to $318,710. The streaking square gaiter is owned by David Smith of Rockwood, ON.
