Meridian Magic Named PEISHOA HOTY
After carrying on a 25-race win streak, Meridian Magic was named Horse of the Year for 2010 at the PEI Standardbred Horse Owners Association (PEISHOA) Awards banquet Saturday evening in Charlottetown
.
Meridian Magic, trained by Kenny Arsenault and owned by Barry Martin and James Gillis of Sydney, N.S., was the dominant horse in Atlantic Canada in 2011 winning 16 of her 17 races and earning over $81,000.
Jack Hynes, who has been a longtime owner and was recognized for his role in the development of Old Home Week and the Gold Cup and Saucer, was named Horseman of the Year.
Successful trainer Cindy MacDonald was named Horsewoman of the Year and longtime owner Orville Willis was named Active Horseman of the Year.
Leading Grand Circuit trainer George Teague was the guest speaker for the event, which attracted a record crowd of over 360 people.
