Ricks Sign Romps In WFR Preferred
After a narrow loss in last Monday’s $14,800 Preferred Pace at Western Fair Raceway, Ricks Sign returned to the London half-miler and exacted some revenge by winning this week’s feature in going-away fashion
.
Eric Carlson got away sixth with Ricks Sign while race favourite Ruthless Ace ripped through fractions of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:27.1. Carlson caught some cover on the way to the half with his charge before making a three-wide bid to get after Ruthless Ace going into the final turn. A :29.1 final frame was more than enough for Rick Sign to draw clear by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:57. Major Stone, who was last week’s Preferred winner, was second best while Bob Watts grabbed the show dough.
Paul Holzman trains the six-year-old son of Life Sign-Lasting Flower for owner Andrew Sassen of Hillsboro Beach, FL. The victory was the gelding’s fifth of the season in eight tries. The 23-time winner has banked in excess of $111,000 to date.
