Walter Case To Be Released In September?
According to a report, incarcerated driver Walter Case, Jr. will be getting out of jail next month for good behaviour and is planning on getting back in the race bike at the Meadows in Pennsylvania.
Today's Harness Tracks of America daily newsletter cites a report stating that Case, who has recorded more than 11,000 driving wins, is being released nine months early "and will be taking his whip, helmet and colors to take up residence at the Meadows," which has been dominated for years by veteran pilot Dave Palone.
According to the HTA item, the update is news to John Marshall, vice president and general manager of the Meadows. Apparently, Marshall hadn't heard of the report and hasn't heard from Case.
In order for Case to be eligible to participate in Pennsylvania racing, he would have to apply for reinstatement to the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission. The HTA report states that Marshall would consider an application from Case to race at the Meadows if he received prior PHRC approval.
In September 2004, Case pleaded guilty to stabbing his estranged wife in the back with a steak knife during an incident that started at the couple's home on June 22.
Trot Magazine had conducted an exclusive interview with Case during his incarceration.
