Killean Cut Kid Pulls Off Big Surprise
Overlooked by the betting public, Killean Cut Kid pulled off a 27-1 upset with a wire-to-wire victory in the $12,500 Open Pace featured on Friday's harness racing program at Fraser Downs
.
Leaving from Post 5 with Brandon Campbell in the sulky in the field reduced to six due to scratches, Killean Cut Kid took control and bypassed stations of :27.2, :58 and 1:26.1 before stopping the clock in 1:55 over a 'good' track rated two seconds off. Armbro Dublin (Keith Clark) rode the pocket to finish second, two and a half lengths behind, and Beach Boy Toy (Dave Hudon) rounded out the top three.
Killean Cut Kid returned $57.30 for the victory as the longest shot on the board. The much talked about race favourite, Kiss My Cam (Ed Hensley), was a distant last.
Trainer Kelly Hoerdt co-owns the gelded son of Mach Three-Winning Lin, who has won two of his eight starts as a six-year-old, with Blair Corbeil of Beaumont, Alta. The victory was his 19th overall and pushed his bankroll to $125,762.
