'Big M' Cancels Thursday After First Race
Poor weather conditions forced the Meadowlands Racetrack to cancel after the completion of the first race on Thursday evening
. Reports indicate the starting gate was having traction issues as result of the heavy rain and high winds on Thursday evening.
Summer Snow was the only winner on the card, and that victory came in a $16,000 division of the Night Styles Series. Brian Sears got away sixth with the 6-5 favourite while Fortunes Smile and BJs Mayreau took turns on the lead through fractions of :29.4, :58.3 and 1:27.2.
Summer Snow caught cover before making a bold three-wide move at the three-quarter pole. She only need a :30.1 final quarter to get up for a neck decision in 1:58.1. BJs Mayreau was a determined runner-up, while Fortunes Smile grabbed the show dough.
Trained by Albert Meyer for the Squawk Box Stable LLC of Monroe Twp, NJ, the four-year-old daughter of Admirals Galley-Always Summer improved her 2011 record to 3-2-1 from just seven starts. She has banked in excess of $36,000 this season and more than $48,000 to date.
The two unraced Night Styles Series divisions will move to Thursday, March 17. (No second leg will be raced). The top earners from the first round divisions on March 10 and 17 will meet in the series final on Thursday, March 24. The unraced second leg of the Horse and Groom Series for trotters will be carried over to Thursday, March 17, with its final also to be contested March 24.
