British Racetracks To Offer Free Admission
Twenty-five racetracks in Britain will offer free admission during the month of April as part of an initiative to attract new customers to the sport called 'Racing For Change'
.
According to an article on BBC News, a one week experiment offering free admission last year attracted an additional 40,000 attendees. This year, free admission will be offered for 17 race days while 5,500 free tickets will be offered in advance on a first-come, first-served basis for the other 11 days.
"This groundbreaking move in April is being organised in a bid to attract record numbers of new customers," said Rod Street, the chief executive of Racing For Change, in an article on BBC News. "It's also a great way to reward existing fans of the sport.
"The aim is to appeal to people who have been infrequent visitors to horse racing in the past or who have never been to a racecourse. At many of the meetings, there will be staff, literature and displays to explain more about the sport."
