Standardbred Canada is pleased to announce that Mario Charron, 44, of Saint-Lin-Laurentides, Que. and Sylvain LaCaille, 45, of Legardeur, Que. will be Quebec’s representatives at the 2011 National Driving

Championship, scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park.

Due to the timing of Quebec’s racing season, a regional event couldn’t be scheduled. A committee, which included SC directors from Quebec, was formed to determine two drivers to represent the province. Taking into account a wide range of criteria, including driving talent, statistics, the ability to be a good ambassador, and availability, Charron and LaCaille were chosen.

Charron and LaCaille will join Ken Arsenault, Gilles Barrieau, Brandon Campbell and Dave Hudon at the national event. The Ontario Regional Driving Championship, scheduled for Friday, March 11 at Western Fair, will determine the final two drivers for the national field.

The winner of the National Driving Championship will be Canada’s representative to the 2011 World Driving Championship hosted by the United States Trotting Association from July 31 to August 5.
