St Elmo Hero Scratched From Cdn Debut
St Elmo Hero, the most talked about horse in harness racing in the last few months, has been scratched from Saturday's Cam Fella elimination at Woodbine
Racetrack, according to owner John Barnard.
The five-year-old son of Western Hero has gone undefeated in 24 starts, while earning a 1:49.1 lifetime best and $202,950 in career earnings.
"It started last night," Barnard commented from his stable in Illinois. "I've been around this horse long enough to know when something isn't right with him. We pulled his temperature and sure enough it was high. It's a terrible feeling to have to scratch him, but it's for the best and I can't expect him to get on a truck and ship to Canada when he's sick.
"I was really looking forward to racing him in Canada. He was terrific on Saturday (1:50 win over an off-track at Balmoral Park), so I thought he was coming into this race in fine form."
Only one division will be required for the Cam Fella eliminations with the $100,000 final scheduled for March 12. The elimination will go to post in race six with the following post

This horse would of crushed
This horse would of crushed this field. Now look for Jackets Required to dominate them! McIntosh will have him raring to go and ya got the great Randy driving what more could ya want.
And St Elmo Hero I love that he is not feeling well and the owners trainer and everyone invovled with him did the right thing by scratching him. If he is not 100 percent he should not be on the track!
I think that was a silly
I think that was a silly comment made by Mr.Schott, some people do care about their horses, any horse that goes 1:50 at Belmoral could easily beat the rest of this field.
Post position means nothing when a horse is sharp and ready to go.There is only 4 horses in the elimination that should be there, the rest are hoping for a miracle.
This may be a legitimate
This may be a legitimate scratch but you must wonder what would have happened if St Elmo Hero drew an inside post.
