Three For 'Perfect M;' Five For Pierce
The winning streak is now three-in-a-row and counting for Perfect M Forever, who defended her title on Tuesday as the top distaffer at Dover Downs for the
second consecutive week for trainer Josh Green.
With Eric Goodell at the controls, Perfect M Forever shot to immediate command and laid down a :27-second opening quarter in the $26,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap before giving way to Lightning Treasure as the field moved in front of the grandstand.
Lightning Treasure hit the half in :55.1 before coming under fierce pressure from High Speed Life in the backstretch. That pace prompter showed a short lead at the three-quarter pole in 1:23.4 only to get nipped in the final strides by Perfect M Forever. The odds-on favourite used a :28.1 final frame to win by a head over Lightning Treasure, with Itz Cherry Ripe N just a neck back in third.
The victory improved Perfect M Forever’s 2011 record to 3-1-0 in six starts, and it helped boost her bankroll in excess of $426,000. The 37-time winner is owned by KSJ Stables LLP of Xenia, OH.
Hall of Famer Ron Pierce enjoyed a big day at the office thanks to his five-win performance. He took the opener with Cheese Plumper (1:54.1) and followed up with wins behind Mystra (1:53.3), TEs Cammie (1:54.1) and Elusive Prey (1:53.1).
