Inter Dominions Moving To Auckland?
According to a report, the status of the highly anticipated Inter Dominions, which are scheduled to take place in New Zealand's earthquake-ravaged Christchurch, will be known on Wednesday, March 2
.
An article on stuff.co.nz explains that a meeting is to take place Wednesday between Addington chief executive Shane Gloury, the Interdominion events committee, and New Zealand and Australian harness acing officials as to whether or not the Christchurch racetrack can still host the event.
"There's some cracking in the public stand that I'm a bit nervous about but, apart from that, I'm confident that once we can get tradesmen the rest, like broken glass and ceiling tiles, can be repaired in a few days," Gloury was quoted as saying.
"If we got a clean bill of health from a structural engineer, and the council is happy for us to hold the series – and that's a big if – I'd be more inclined to still run it here."
The article explains that if Christchurch/Addington is not able to host the event, Auckland could fill the void.
"Auckland has made it clear they wouldn't want to be seen to be taking over the event, but they would assist us," Gloury said.
"The Met could run the series as a tenant club at the Auckland track.
"If we went to Auckland, it would be easier for visitors, and we'd be more certain of getting the top Aussie horses. But there are other factors to consider, too. Taking the carnival outside of Canterbury would mean a range of stakeholders here would miss out."
