So saddened to learn of Pauls recent passing....he was the consummate horseman in every sense of the word....they just don't make like that anymore! My prayers are with Mark and his family.

Blair Burgess. I worked underneath Paul when he was the private trainer and farm manager at Cantario Farms. He was definitely a mentor to me. He had come to work there with substantial reputation, especially training the "Soky's" horses for William Sokoloff. He had been hurt badly being kicked by a mare, and his subsequent lack of mobility because of a permanently damaged leg, certainly inhibited him but he persevered. His respect for the history of the sport and his anecdotes about the good horses he worked with (including at Armstrongs I believe) are permanently engrained in me. It may seem small but I will always remember he would NEVER go and race a horse without first shaving. Even if he had already done so that morning and he only had time enough to do it in the barn bathroom. It just wasn't appropriate to show up in the paddock otherwise.

Truly one of the nicest people in the sport, always smiling and willing to lend a hand. His family can take comfort in the fact he was as respected as well as he was liked. My deepest condolences...

I was stabled beside Paul for a long time and he really was a true gentleman.
