Open To 'Beach Boy'; Lil Kim Sweeps Series
Beach Boy Toy held off a rallying Tre Bien, defending Open Pace champion, to score his first win of the year in this week's edition of the $12,500 event on Friday night at Fraser Downs

Beach Boy Toy and trainer-driver David Hudon re-took the lead from Cardiff Hanover (Mike Hennessy) past the :27.2 first quarter and cut out middle splits of :56.4 and 1:24.3 with At Last (Kevin Anderson) coming first up and 1-5 favourite Tre Bien (Ed Hensley) following his cover. The six-year-old son of Artiscape-Good Vibrations pressed on down the stretch to score a 1:53.3 victory over a quick-closing Tre Bien, who finished three-quarters of a length behind. At Last was third.
Beach Boy Toy paid $15.40 for the 6-1 upset. The 12-time career winner, who has banked $220,154, is owned by Bill Boden of Vancouver, B.C.
Lil Kim ($3.30) completed a sweep of the BBS Mirage Claiming Series for $9,000 claiming mares later on the card for trainer-driver Ed Hensley, who also shares ownership with the J J J Stables of Aldergrove, B.C. The eight-year-old Little Steven-Denali Dot Com mare rallied off cover to win the $17,200 final in 1:54.4 by over three lengths. Duel N Die (David McKellar) and pacesetter Red Star Brooklyn (Serge Masse), a second leg winner, finished second and third.
