Zeron First To 100 In 2011

After a breakout season in which he was a finalist for Canada's driver of the year title, Scott Zeron has continued to roll right along in 2011

On Wednesday, February 16, the 21-year-old resident of Oakville, Ont. became the first pilot in North America to record 100 driving victories in the young season.

The win came at Flamboro Downs with the Larry Fitzsimmons-trained Bo Knows Jate filly Angel On The Wing, who, after running behind the gate, went on to score the four-length victory in 1:59.3.

Zeron's win with Angel On The Wing came in his 441st pari-mutuel drive of 2011. He is currently sporting a Universal Driver Rating of .345 and has steered his mounts to $476,272 in purse earnings so far this campaign.

Heading into the Thursday, February 17 programs of harness racing, Dave Palone and Eric Carlson had each recorded 95 driving wins, while Dan Noble was close behind with 93. Jody Jamieson rounded out the top five with 78.

On the training side of things, Ron Burke leads all of North America's conditioners with 79 wins heading into Thursday's races, followed by Lou Pena (57), Josh Green (43), Jamie Copley (33) and Rene Allard (31).
