Repeat Winners In Spartacus Series
Fresh off a victory in last week’s opening round of Fraser Downs’ Spartacus Claiming Series for $9,000 claiming pacers, Kiss My Cam made a huge statement in his second leg split on Saturday afternoon, winning by open lengths
.
After advancing to the lead from mid-pack, Kiss My Cam drew off to win by 10 lengths in the first $7,100 division. The seven-year-old Camluck-Mood Indigo gelding, who stopped the clock in 1:54.3 over a sloppy track, is now a perfect two-for-two since being claimed by trainer-driver Ed Hensley and the J J J Stable of Aldergrove, B.C. for $6,000 on January 29. He paid $6.10 to win as the 2-1 second choice. Modern Man (Tim Brown) finished second while favourite Desperate Measures (Jim Marino) was third, putting an end to his five-race win streak.
Oblivious Boy was also a repeat winner in the series for driver Brandon Campbell and trainer Kelly Hoerdt, who claimed the five-year-old gelded son of As Promised-Armbro Villa with Beaumont, Alberta’s Blair Corbeil for $6,000, also on January 29.
The 3-5 popular choice avoided a breaking Bear Ing Promises (Tim Brown) early on and made up lost ground to prevail in 1:57.4 by one and a quarter length over pacesetter Kg Mattattack (David McKellar). Custom Crafted (Ed Hensley) was third. Oblivious Boy paid $3.50 to win.
