New York Handle Steady
New York’s total racetrack facility handle was virtually unchanged in 2010, a positive indicator in the face of nationwide declining trends, state officials say
.
“It was a tough year nationally for the gaming sector because of the worldwide recession,” said Joseph Mahoney, New York State Racing and Wagering Board spokesman. “These numbers show the sport of racing is alive and well in New York state.”
Total facility handle for all New York thoroughbred and harness tracks fell just $1 million from $570.1 million in 2009 to $569.1 million last year.
