Celtic Warrior Still Perfect For Marfisi
Celtic Warrior was beginning to earn the reputation of being a camera-shy horse after starting the season 1-for-15, but since relocating to the stable of trainer Duane Marfisi he has turned things around.
The four-year-old son of Angus Hall, who was a 1:57.3 winner at Mohawk on August 9 in his debut for "Dewey", had no problem doubling up when he took his show on the road to Flamboro Downs earlier this evening.
With Doug McNair at the helm, the OSS graduate front-stepped his way to a 1:57.1 score in the $12,600 Preferred Trot. He sliced out splits of :27.3, :58.2 and 1:27.1 before finishing off his foes with a :30-second final quarter.
Gettindownanddirty was a lapped-on runner-up despite being caught first-over in the back half of the mile. Will He, who was sent off as the 4-5 choice, had to settle for third after sitting a pocket trip throughout.
Joel Benson of Pompano, Florida and Aaron Waxman of Brantford, Ont. share ownership on the career winner of $178,128.
