Stonebridge Diva Does It In OSS Gold Final
Taking advantage of a late miscue by post time favourite Cumin First, Stonebridge Diva rallied from off the pace to score the $120,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final for two-year-old trotting fillies at Kawartha Downs on Saturday night.
With Brad Rae at the lines, Stonebridge Diva sat in sixth on the outside as Cumin First (Keith Oliver) set the pace through panels of :31.1, 1:02.2 and 1:31.3 before breaking stride in the stretch and fading to sixth.
Stonebridge Diva closed hard posting a :28.3 final quarter for the win in 2:00.4. Longshot Daylon Mystique (Wayne Henry) faired well from post 10 coming in second and Easter Bonnet (Guy Gagnon) was third.
Stonebridge Diva finished second by a nose in her elimination last week to Keep In Dutch, who broke behind the gate this week.
The Angus Hall filly is trained by Gro Formia and owned by Angie Stiller of Arva, Ont. and Robert Kauffman of New Albany, Ohio. The win was her second in four starts, boosting her bankroll to $83,200.
In the $20,000 OSS Consolation, Pajama Land (Jeff O'Brien) used front-end tactics to score her first lifetime win in 2:00.1 by a head, holding off a late charge from the pocket-sitter Dominica As.
The Kadabra filly is trained and co-owned by O'Brien of London, Ont. and co-owners Eldon and Carol Wettlaufer and Pamela Kampers of St Thomas, Ont.
