Series Action Kicks Off At The Big M
The opening rounds of the Tender Loving Care Series and Junior Trendsetter Series were featured as part of Thursday’s 10-race card the The Meadowlands, with fillies battling in three divisions while the colts and geldings
butted heads in a trio of splits.
Some Girls Do delivered on her 1-5 pari-mutuel promise in her $12,500 division of the Tender Loving Care, but it wasn’t pretty. The three-year-old daughter of American Ideal-Village Green brushed to the top shortly past the quarter pole and drew off to win big a big margin despite being locked on the right line throughout the mile and eventually drifting out into the six or seven-wide path when she crossed the wire. Studio Queen was second and Turnoffthelights was third.
Brian Sears mapped out the winning trip with the Ronnie Burke pupil, who is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Frank Baldachino and Earl Smith. She is 2-for-2 this season and is now a three-time winner to date.
Hello Camie gave trainer Ronnie Burke the double in the Tender Loving Care thanks to her off-the-pace triumph for driver Yannick Gingras in a time of 1:54.3. The filly tracked down race favourite Sagebrush Susie in the closing strides en route to picking up her second victory of the season in as many tries. Sagebrush Susie held on for the runner-up award while Mystical Diva, who set the pace in the first half of the mile, was third.
Burke Racing Stable LLC, Lawrence Karr, Frank Baldachino and Barbara Schneider share ownership on the three-year-old daughter of Cambest-Hello Samantha. The lion’s share of the purse lifted her lifetime earnings in excess of $87,000.
The heavily favoured Joe Palz got the job done in his $12,500 division of the Junior Trendsetter for the tandem of driver Yannick Gingras and trainer Chris Choate in a time of 1:53. . Mcsocks parked Truly The Best to the quarter pole in a :28-second clip before the latter cleared to the top. Once in command, Truly The Best hammered out middle splits of :56 and 1:24.4. Joe Palz was applying first-over pressure to the leader in the third quarter before surging to the lead and edging away to win in 1:53. Sky Mesa tracked covered and rallied to finish second while third prize went to first-time start Cobalt Man.
Anthony Ruggeri of Mamaroneck, NY holds the ownership papers on the three-year-old son of Blissfull Hall-Ante Fay, who is now perfect in his first two starts of the season after going 0-for-5 last year.
Nathan Feelsgood, despite putting in some bad steps at the mid-way point and despite suffering broken equipment, notched a 1:54 decision in his $12,500 assignment for driver Tim Tetrick and trainer Rob Harmon. The colt found himself parked at the half in a :57-second clip before working to the lead and laying down the third panel in 1:26.1. A :27.4 final frame was enough to earn Nathan Feelsgood the win over Im Feelin Good and Gotta Love Him.
Patricia and Gerald Mulder of Lansing, MI share ownership on the three-year-old son of Mr Feelgood-Black Chana. The victory was the colt’s first of the season and the second of his career.
Mojo Terror pulled of an 18-1 upset in the third division when he rallied to a narrow victory for driver John Campbell in a time of 1:53.2. The gelding battled with Top Notch Hanover to the quarter pole in :28.2 before releasing that foe to the lead. Top Notch Hanover carved out middle splits of :56.4 and 1:24.3 while being prompted along by War Cloud. Campbell swung out wide with Mojo Terror at the head of the lane, and the pacer used a late rally to edge by War Cloud in the closing strides. War Cloud held on for second prize, with the show dough being earned by Border Fighting.
Michael Hall trains the three-year-old son of Western Terror-Winning Mojo for Bulletproof Enterprises of Boca Raton, FL. The victory was the second of the season in three starts for the pacer.
