Spartan Law Scores In Mr Vancouver
Trainer/driver Scott Knight enjoyed a banner day at the office on Sunday thanks in large part to Spartan Law’s 17-1 upset victory in the $35,000 final of the Mr Vancouver
.
Spartan Law, who settled off the pace while Nobody Can threw down panels of :28, :58.4 and 1:27.2, used a :29.4 closing kick to propel himself to the neck decision over that tempo-setting foe in a time of 1:57.4. Tahuya Clem C tagged along to finish a lapped-on third.
Knight, who also clicked with Red Star Striper (1:57.2) and Greek Beach (1:55.4), watched Spartan Law push his lifetime earnings over $40,000 with the victory. It was the first win of the season and the sixth lifetime tally for the four-year-old son of Pro Bono Best, who is owned by Lavender Hills Farm of Langley, BC.
Multiflora Hanover was a popular winner in the $15,500 final of the Miss Onager Claiming Series for the tandem of driver Brandon Campbell and co-owner/trainer Kelly Hoerdt. The five-year-old daughter of Western Hanover laid down panels of :27.2, :58 and 1:25.3 before using a :30-second closing quarter to win by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:55.3. Real Vintage was next best, and third prize went to Barossa.
Sent off as the 3/5 choice, Multiflora Hanover improved her 2010 record to 3-0-0 in five starts while lifting her yearly earnings to $12,250. She has banked in excess of $56,000 to date for Hoerdt and partner Blair Corbeil of Beaumont, AB.
Barry MacFarlane and Crimson Racing Stable’s Mystic Maiden prevailed after enjoying a pocket trip in the $12,500 Fillies And Mares Open. The four-year-old Camystic miss tracked Jans Rich Girl through splits of :27, :56.3 and 1:25 before using a :29.3 final frame to post the 1-3/4 length tally in 1:54.4. Rossridge Fortune came on to grab the runner-up award while Lickcreek Jazzy took home the show dough.
Jim Marino mapped out the winning trip for the Justin Currie trainee, who was making her 2011 debut. She enjoyed a brilliant 2010 season which included going 15-for-17 and banking more than $143,000. She has stashed away more than $172,000 in her career.
