‘Caliban’ Cops CDP’s Top Trot

On Saturday, January 29, during what was the last card of live racing at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park until April 16, Caliban Hanover and driver Walter Cheverie made sure they nailed down the Open Handicap Trot

.

Having started from Post 4 in the $1,400 event, which was contested over a ‘good’ track rated two seconds slow, Cheverie sent his charge off the wings and worked out a three-hole ride through early fractions of :30.1 and 1:00.2.

After finding themselves in the garden spot past the three-quarters pole (1:32.1), Cheverie and his Ronnie Gass-conditioned charge made a bid for the lead in the lane which proved fruitful.

Caliban Hanover’s final margin of victory was a half length, and the six-year-old gelded son of Andover Hall stopped the clock in 2:02.3.

Hall Trot (driven by Todd Walsh) finished second and Unstoppable Image (Ronnie Gass) finished third.
