Smith On Indiana: We’ll Be Okay
The threat of a 43 per-cent cutback in Indiana purses will not affect Hoosier Park this year, according to general manager of racing Jeff Smith.
Should governor Mitch Daniels succeed in convincing the legislature to pass the cut and to divert the money to the state’s general fund, it would not be effective until Hoosier’s March 21 - July 16 meet ended.
Hopefully legislative help in a state where literally hundreds of small farms provide the state with a major agricultural industry will save Indiana Downs from draconian cuts.
Both tracks contribute millions to Indiana’s economy and have provided thousands of jobs.
