Oakridge Rambler Sets Manitoba Record
Oakridge Rambler established a new track record at the Wawanesa Fair in Manitoba when he torched the half-mile oval in 1:56.4 in Sunday's Preferred Pace.
The record-setting performance erased the former mark held jointly by Cam And Dave and Royal Machine, who both toured the oval in 1:58.2 in 2007.
The 1:56.4 performance also goes into the record books as the fastest mile in the history of the Manitoba Great Western Harness Racing Circuit. The former record of 1:57.2 was established by Royal Machine at the Holland Fair in 2000.
Oakridge Gambler, a four-year-old son of Firm Friend, rallied from just off the pace to score the quarter-length decision over Home Run. Up Ahead rounded out the top three in the $1,825 affair.
Philip Giesbrecht handled the driving duties for trainer Jodie Cullen and owner Douglas Sexsmith of Virden, MB.
The record-setting performance was one of four wins on the card for the duo of trainer Cullen and driver Giesbrecht.
