WEG Pick-4 Ticket (Fri, Dec. 31)

Woodbine Racetrack will present a $40,000 guaranteed pool for its early Pick-4 Friday afternoon. The Pick-4 will kick off as usual in Race 4

.

Greg Gangle of the Woodbine Entertainment Group’s media department has handicapped the four races and provided the following insight:

Race 4: 3-4-5
Race 5: 1-7-8
Race 6: 3-10
Race 7: 3

Total - $18 or $3.60 for the $.20 option

Race 4

#3 - Rudy Rocks - Has won by over 5-lgnths in his last two starts which should make him the post time favourite coming into tonight’s event. This was my toughest race to handicap as I feel there are multiple horses who could post the win. In his last effort, Rudy Rocks posted a 1:55 score which should secure the victory tonight.

#4 - Margarita Man - He exploded late in the mile in his more recent start, with a :28.1 final quarter. I’m sure he wont get away too far back like he did last week, given post 4. With just 1 win this season, he is chancy but he seems to be coming into the race in fine form.

#5 - Skyway Cruiser - You must have him in your pick-4 ticket after posting two victories in his last three starts in this class. He’s not a standout in this event by any means, but if he minds his manners and gets the correct trip he’s defiantly a threat. Note: Jamieson elected to drive Rudy Rocks over Skyway Cruiser.

Race 5

#1 - A Special Lady - Finished a hard-closing second last week for trainer Gord Remmen. She has been blessed with post 1 and has Waples driving, which doesn’t hurt. She has the most earnings in this field and has competed successfully at a higher level.

#7 - Whycantiforgetyou - Scored the victory over A Special Lady last week with a final quarter of :27.4. She is known for her patented off-the-pace style of racing and with post 7 that will likely happen again. She has been very consistent at this level and will likely be the post time favourite.

#8 - Virtuous Western - Has posted wins this year and has been knocking on the door. I’m not overly confident that she can get the job done tonight, but with the combination of Jamieson and Gillis anything is possible. She’s due for a win and tonight might be the night.

Race 6

#3 - Slightly Tipsy - Has 8 wins this year where her closest rival has 4. She has not been racing very well lately but this is a weak field and she has drawn bad on her recent two outings. Tonight she has the inside post 3 and has WEG’s leading trainer, Richard Moreau.

#10 – Frenchfrysnvinegar - If Jamieson doesn’t leave with her and get her spotted accordingly, I don’t think she is a contender. Last week she got beat after controlling the tempo and faded to fourth. She only has 3 wins this year but has a season’s record of 1:55; therefore, she has enough talent to win.

Race 7

#3 - Marietta Hall - Has just 2 wins this year but has a lot of back-class. She raced in the F & M Open and now dropped significantly in class. The only horse I think could be a threat to her is Rub Thing (Post 10). I wouldn’t be surprised if Keith Oliver sent her to the lead and controlled the pace. She was purchased by Montini at this year’s Harrisburg Mixed Sale for $110,000 and will be looking for their first victory with her.
