Kentucky Gears Up For Evening Of Champions
The Red Mile will be the place to be on Sunday night, Aug. 31, as the historic harness racetrack in Lexington, Kentucky, will host its second annual $2.4 million Kentucky Sire Stakes' Unbridled Evening of Champions, the richest finals event of its kind in North America.
Eight $300,000 finals for two and three-year-old pacers and trotters will highlight the program at the historic site deemed "The Racetrack of the Century."
In addition, The Red Mile will be offering free admission during the Unbridled Evening of Champions. As a bonus for patrons, more than $13,000 in prizes--including one winner walking away with a $5,000 cash prize--will be given away in raffles during the night to fans 18 and older. Besides additional cash drawings, the special giveaway includes prizes such as cash, gas cards and a Macbook Air laptop computer.
"Last year's inaugural Unbridled Evening of Champions was a great success, and we expect this year's renewal to be even better," said Kentucky Horse Racing Commission Deputy Executive Director Marc Guilfoil. "We've already seen some great racing in the opening rounds, and what makes this evening even better is that The Red Mile has been gracious enough to open its doors for free, as well as an additional bonus of having great giveaways that offer terrific prizes."
The Kentucky Sire Stakes is a culmination of a month-long series of preliminary races, which have already showcased some of the sport's biggest stars. With the best of the best earning spots in the finals, this is a chance for fans to see the elite of the Bluegrass State up close and personal at the famed Red Mile racetrack.
The first post time of the Unbridled Evening of Champions is 6:30 p.m. In addition, music by The Downtown County Band will liven up the evening, and a "Kid's Korner," that includes pony rides, face painting and an inflatable obstacle course will be open free of charge to children.
