Politician Wants To Obtain Preakness
With a boatload of uncertainty in Maryland's horse racing industry, a politician and attorney have made it known that they would like to have the Preakness Stakes take place in their state
.
Attorney Ed Gadrix and state rep. Harry Geisinger have a tough task ahead of them if they want to land the second jewel of the United States' Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing.
An article by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution explains that the pair has submitted legislation to bring horse racing to the state of Georgia in 2013.
“My long-term goal is to get the Preakness [Stakes] here,” Gadrix was quoted as saying.
The report explains that Geisinger sees Georgia’s economy as ripe for an estimated 10,000 new jobs related to racing. “People in Georgia tried this previously and were not successful simply because of the attitude of the General Assembly at the time,” Geisinger was quoted as saying. “All that has changed.”
In a very positive quote, Geisinger said, “Some people say the horse industry and race tracks are having difficulty; show me a business that’s not. You don’t plan your future based on the difficulty of the moment. You do it bigger and better than anybody’s done before -- which we have done in Georgia, and we can do it again.”
The legislation's journey will begin in the upcoming General Assembly.
