WEG Pick-4 Ticket (Sat. Dec. 18)
Woodbine Racetrack presents a $40,000 guaranteed pool for its early Pick-4 on Saturday evening, and Woodbine Entertainment Group's commentator Chris Hickey has scanned Races 4 through 7 to come up with a plan of attack
for constructing a ticket.
Race 4 - 2, 3, 9
Race 5 - 1, 6
Race 6 - 1, 5
Race 7 - 1, 4, 5
Total - $36 for $1 or $7.20 for $.20
Race 4
#2 Power Shot – Moves up in class slightly tonight after winning his last convincingly. He has been steadily improving since coming back after some time off so the move up in class isn’t enough to rule him out. Filion has options from his starting position as he has shown the ability to race from on or off the pace.
#3 Caspedfrendlyhors – Was dropping to this level in his most recent but he was unable to hit the trot early and any shot at a cheque was out the window before the start. If he can mind his manners tonight, he should be competitive as his last win came at this class.
#9 Chinny Wings – He’s one that I’ve had my eye on for a few weeks. He hasn’t gotten a win in that time but he does enough to make me think that next time might be the right time. This is his last chance for me and Post 9 should makes the price right.
Race 5
#1 F Train – Rallied from well back in last to pick up the last purse share. I think the inside post gets him into the race sooner and think he’ll be raced more aggressively tonight. His :26.2 last quarter was the bullet last quarter a week ago so he should have lots of fight in him late.
#6 Flem N Em N – Returns to the races tonight after getting last week off. Was less than impressive in his last start but does drop in company tonight so on that angle alone you cannot overlook him. He’s raced against much tougher than these so let’s hope he starts going up the class ladder after tonight and not further down.
Race 6
#1 Jackets Required – Faced world class competition in his last when at Northfield in a stake event. None of these have ever faired as well against that type of competition. Don’t think the ship to Northfield and back or the week off last week will hurt him as he should be well rested after a five month break earlier this year.
#5 Brave Alex Semalu – Jumped a class last time out when going from NW2 to NW4. Despite the big jump he raced very well threatening to pull a 6-1 upset until very late in the mile. He seems to be improving with each start of late so for that reason I will not leave him off my ticket.
Race 7
#1 Mr Saratoga – He has raced at the top level on this circuit and a week ago he did all the road work before getting nipped at the wire. Same post position tonight so I’m thinking same kind of trip as well with perhaps a little more in the tank in the late stages.
#4 Activator – Rallied to get to within a length of the winner last week. Three consecutive starts finishing fourth isn’t going to give you supreme confidence but with a little racing luck he could easily win and do it at a price.
#5 Get Out Of Dodge – He was third as the choice last week and largely because he had a little too much to do in the back half. Can’t argue with his :54.4 time for that second half mile so let’s hope he gets a bit closer for the stretch drive.
