Six Straight For San Pail
San Pail, with regular driver Randy Waples at the controls, conquered five foes in Monday’s $42,000 Open Trot at Woodbine Racetrack
.
The millionaire son of San Pellegrino stormed his way to the front and never looked back posting fractions of :28.2, :58 and 1:27.3 en route to stopping the clock in 1:57. It was 5-3/4 lengths back to runner-up Ericskarri (Rick Zeron), with Armbro Chronicle rallying late to finish third.
San Pail, who was voted Canada’s Older Trotting Horse of the Year at the 2009 O’Brien Awards, will likely return to the podium again this year as Canada’s top older trotter. The Rod Hughes pupil is also in contention for Horse of the Year honours thanks in large part to his win in the $772,000 Maple Leaf Trot earlier this year. He has posted 12 victories from 14 starts this year with $635,500 in seasonal earnings.
Hughes co-owns the gifted trotter along with breeder Glenn Van Camp of Port Perry, ON. The victory was the sixth consecutive tally for San Pail, who now boasts $1,690,465 in lifetime earnings. He paid $2.80 for the win.
