"I Thought He Was Going To Be Tough"
Claiming handicap trotters were featured at Cal-Expo on Thursday, December 9. Jess Or No wouldn't be denied his 33rd career victory, which came over a track listed as 'good.'
After starting from Post 6 in the seven-horse field, driver Luke Plano worked out a pocket trip, which was gapped at times. The seven-year-old British Sterling gelding, who was racing as the post-time choice, converted the trip and posted a half-length win in 2:00.4
Owned by Jim Lackey and trained by Jim Wilkinson, Jr., Jess Or No returned $4.60 on a successful Win wager.
"I thought he was going to be tough off the class drop," Plano stated. "Plus he had been racing in pretty good shape in the class above that -- disregarding the break in his last."
Live racing continues at Cal-Expo on Friday, December 10 at 5:20 p.m. (PST) and on Saturday, December 11 at 5:35 p.m. On Saturdays, Cal-Expo offers a reduced 15 per cent takeout rate on both the Early and Late Pick-4 wagers. Both Pick-4s now feature a $10,000 gross-guaranteed pool.
