Summerside Stacked With Stakes
The 13-race card at Summerside Raceway on Wednesday was stacked full of stakes action with the Joe O'Brien Memorial and Lady Slipper being contested.
There were two $7,250 Lady Slipper divisions for three-year-old trotters.
Rustico Trisox went gate-to-wire for her third straight win in the first division. With Joey Pineau at the controls, the Nikes Image – Rustico Moonshine filly stopped the clock in 2:05.2, winning by two lengths. Trainer John Pineau co-owns the filly, who is 7-0-1 in eight 2008 starts and has earnings of $17,370, with partner Myron Ford.
Lollabrigida broker her maiden for trainer/driver Harold Shepherd in the second split. The Nikes Image – Rustico Vanessa lass sat the pocket and collared leader Scotian Critic (Brian MacPhee) in the lane by a length in 2:06.2. The filly came into the race winless in 20 career tries, but the victory boosted her bankroll to $15,059 for owner Peter Buchanan.
The $13,300 tilt for two-year-old trotters went to Jsr Mr Big was victorious in the first division, despite making a break at the wire, for driver Brian MacPhee and trainer Neil Bambrick. The Western Success – First To Fly colt brushed to the front past the third quarter and had a big enough lead at the wire to hang on by a length and a quarter in 2:00.2. Rodney Maclean owns Jsr Mr Big, who is 2-3-0 in seven starts, banking $10,395.
Urge To Win ended his long streak of seven close finishes and finally broke through for trainer Paul Doyle and driver Shane Bernard in the second split. A son of Collector Rd – Beyond Obsession, he took no prisoners on the front and cruised to a length and three quarters victory in 2:02.2. Doyle co-owns the colt with John Duffy and Brian Andrew. In eight starts, he is 1-5-1 with purses of $14,664.
The two $6,600 Grassroots divisions for the Joe O'Brien Memorial went to Nu Xample (2:02.3) and Oceanview Lije (2:01.1).
Nu Xample was driven by Danny Romo for trainer John Ratchford, who co-owns the N Xample – Delta Nu gelding with Linda Shepherd Ratchford. In six starts, he has a win, second and earnings of $3,595.
Oceanview Lije won his second straight and improved to 2-0-1 in six starts for owner/trainer/breeder William Roloson. Walter Cheverie drove the N Xample – Gettys Gal colt, who has banked $4,520.
