O'Brien Ballots En Route; Horsemanship & Breeder Candidates Announced
A total of 74 ballots for the 2010 O'Brien Awards are being sent out today

The 74 people who will vote on the 2010 O'Brien Awards are media people who cover harness racing on a regular basis across Canada, including writers for the various trade publications and websites as well as those in print, radio, television. All Canadian race secretaries, track publicists and simulcast hosts also participate in the voting. Ballots are due back to SC by Friday, December 17.
Standardbred Canada has an O’Brien Committee that determines the candidates for the O’Brien Award of Horsemanship and the Armstrong Breeder of the Year Award.
Voters are asked to vote for one of the following candidates for the O’Brien Award of Horsemanship:
- Ed Hensley, Blaine, WA
- Riina Rekila, Campbellville, Ont.
- Rick Zeron, Oakville, Ont.
For the Armstrong Breeder of the Year, the committee has put forward the following candidates for the voters to choose from:
- Reve Avec Moi, Dreamwithme, Knowlton, Que.
- Al Libfeld, Marvin Katz and Sam Goldband, Ont.
- Robert McIntosh, Windsor, Ont.
The finalists will be announced on Tuesday, December 21.
The O’Brien Award winners will be announced and honoured at the annual awards banquet on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Delta Meadowvale Hotel in Mississauga.

All of the nominees are worthy. I don't think that you should be using the comment area as a voting poll. The 74 voters should only be influenced by the candidates qualifications and not a write-in campaign.

I think all of the nominees deserve to win but I feel that Riina Rekila deserves top spot. She did not race as many times as the boys but her percentage was great for a nice young lady who also looks after 2 little ones. We need more of these challengers in this wonderful sport. Good luck Riina !!
