Int. Sound Wins HTA Messenger Award

Harold and David Snyder, the father-son team who, through their International Sound Corporation and their families, have been the principal supporters of Harness Tracks of America’s College Scholarship Fund, will receive HTA’s highest honour, the Stan Bergstein Messenger Award

, at the University of Arizona Race Track Industry Program’s awards luncheon in Tucson December 7.

The fund has provided worthy young students involved in harness racing with $707,950 in scholarships at colleges and universities of their choice since its inception, with the Snyder family and International Sound consistently leading the way.

“Without them,” Bergstein said, “there would be no fund. No recipient has been more appropriate in the 30 years the Messenger, which honours accomplishment of note in the sport, has been in existence. The previous winners read like a Hall of Fame, and the Snyders belong in it.”

Past winners have included breeder Norman Woolworth as the first in 1981 and two governors, Edward Rendell of Pennsylvania last year and Jim Edgar of Illinois in 1992. Many of the greatest horsemen of the sport, including Joe O’Brien, John Campbell, Doug Brown, Stanley Dancer and Lou Guida, have won the Messenger over the years.
