Eagle Luck Qualifies At Mohawk
He hadn't recorded a charted line since January 23, and he was busy in the breeding shed earlier this year, but as Eagle Luck proved Thursday, November 25 during the qualifying session at Mohawk Racetrack, it's hard to keep a good millionaire down
.
It was announced in early January of this year that Eagle Luck would be standing at Kendal Hills Stud Farm in Ontario. He would go on to breed 31 mares this year.
Eagle Luck has compiled a resume of 20 wins, 16 second-place finishes and 18 thirds during his career. His biggest stakes wins came in the 2008 Molson Pace, 2006 Simcoe Stakes and 2006 Clearwater Cup. His career earnings currently sit at $1,165,604 and his mark of 1:48.3 was taken over the Meadowlands Racetrack as a five-year-old.
Eagle Luck took part in the last dash during this morning's seven-race Mohawk qualifying session. The track was rated 'good' and a one-second allowance in time was given by the presiding Ontario Racing Commission judges.
In rein to driver Mike Saftic for trainer Gregg McNair, the seven-year-old started from Post 5 in the seven-horse field. Saftic opted to place his charge off the tempo in fifth through the :27.2 opening quarter and :56.3 opening half-mile.
Eagle Luck, a son of Camluck, was 13 lengths off the pace when Saftic had him overland at the 1:26 three-quarters pole. The millionaire dug in and closed some ground in the final quarter of the mile. He was nine and a half lengths in arrears with an eighth of a mile to go, and finished eight and three-quarter lengths back of the leader when all was said and done. Eagle Luck came home with a :27.4 final quarter and was individually timed in 1:56.2.
The race was won by the David Menary-trained and Jody Jamieson-driven Astreos Flash in 1:54.3.
