Big Plans At Capital OTB
Albany, New York's Capital District OTB is planning to build a major new teletheatre at its home base
.
President John Signor told the Albany Times Union, “We’re in discussions with a developer to construct a 21st-century, state-of-the-art teletheatre that will be a racing destination and entertainment venue.”
Signor did not reveal further details regarding size, cost, the developer or the time frame, but the newspaper quoted “those familiar with the project” as saying Columbia Development, an arm of BBL Construction, would build the teletheatre and supermarket on a large property Capital OTB owns.
Albany’s mayor, Jerry Jennings, who favours and supports the project as part of expansion of Albany’s Central Avenue, told the Times Union, “They don’t need all that land, and if we can put something at that corner and create jobs and opportunities, let’s do it.”
The supermarket reportedly would be a ShopRite, the largest retailer-owned cooperative in the nation, with 45 members that individually own and operate more than 200 stores.
