Jim Allison Passes, Arrangements Made

Trot Insider has learned that horse owner James 'Jim' Allison of Barrie, Ont. passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Tuesday, November 16 with his wife Nancy by his side. He was 68 years old

.

Jim was raised in Burlington and began his career in Orillia. He was the creator of the Ossiwippi Express restaurant in Orillia before moving to Nova Scotia. He then spent 10 years living in Mexico. More recently he spent his time between Barrie and Temagami where he and Nancy enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Jim is the owner of Daylon Mistress, who is currently finding success at Georgian Downs.

"Nobody enjoyed the industry more than Jim," Ron Waples explained to Trot Insider. "He had older horses, but also really enjoyed the young horses."

Jim is predeceased by his mom and dad, Loy and Jack Allison. He leaves his wife and best friend Nancy along with her parents William and Virginia Stewart, children Rebecca (Matt), Jordan, and Ryan. He also leaves sister and brother-in-laws Judy and Bob and Bill and Sheila. He also leaves brothers and their wives Ken and Debbie, Jack and Linda, and Todd and Donna, and much loved nieces and nephews Jamie, Brian, Kristy, Crey, Tyler and Kelsey. Jim's humour and antics, along with his cooking skills and love for his horses will be dearly missed.

A memorial will be held on Monday, Nov. 22, with visitation at 1 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life starting at 2 p.m. at Bethel Community Church, 128 St. Vincent Street, Barrie, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society (OSAS) 36 Main Street, Campbellville, Ontario L0P 1B0.
