Jim Lewis Passes

Trot Insider has learned that breeder/owner John James 'Jim' Lewis of Belleville, Ont. passed away at home in the loving care of his family on Saturday, November 6

at the age of 71.

Jim will be forever loved and remembered by soul mate and devoted wife of 49 years, Beverly (nee Caverly). Jim is the son of the late Tom and Bernice Lewis.

Jim was a longtime local businessman and entrepreneur. He will be lovingly missed by daughters Julie Ferguson (Ted McDonald) of Ottawa and Jo-Anne Lewis (Mark Green) of Napanee. Cherished 'Poppa' of grandchildren David Ferguson, Eric, Katherine, Roberta and Sarah Green. Fondly remembered by siblings Tom (Maxine), Kent (Barb) and Betty Langstaff; cousins Terry and John Paul Murphy and extended family and friends.

Jim raced horses for 35 years, many of which took part in the Ontario Sires Stakes program. The first horse he ever owned was Tim Bo, and he tasted victory in the Quinte Cup with Rompin Roanie. Other notables horses that Jim was associated with were Nineandevine, Camlucks Crown, Warrawee Tunta and Hour Lavec.

Friends are invited to call at the John R. Bush Funeral Home, 80 Highland Avenue (613-968-5588) on Friday, November 12, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A celebration of Jim's life will be held in the chapel immediately after visitation at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment at Belleville Cemetery.
