Cordish "Delighted" To Take Over Tracks

According to a report, the Cordish Company has asked Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley to take control of the Laurel Park and Pimlico thoroughbred racecourses if the Maryland Jockey Club goes through with its threat to significantly reduce operations at the facilities

.

On Tuesday, November 2, voters in Maryland's Anne Arundel County voted to approve plans for the largest casino in the state -- to be located at the Arundel Mills Mall -- as 'Question A' passed with roughly 56 per cent of the vote.

Tom Chuckas, president of the Maryland Jockey Club, had stated that in response to the vote, live racing at Laurel Park will cease and Pimlico would have a drastically reduced schedule.

An article today by the Baltimore Business Journal explains that Cordish President David Cordish has stated that his company would be "delighted" to take over the tracks and revive the State of Maryland's horse racing industry.

“We’re ready, willing and able to do it,” he was quoted as saying in the Baltimore Business Journal piece.
