Mr Martin Doubles In Xtreme Enduro
The Xtreme Enduro Series continued on Wednesday afternoon at Flamboro Downs with Mr Martin delivering on his pari-mutuel promise in the 15-horse, one-and-a-half-mile event which featured a purse of $7,000
.
Series leader Mr Martin settled into fourth position from Post 8 by the opening quarter while 29-1 Bonnie Ronnie (Jonathan Drury) set up shop on the front end. Under the direction of driver Paul MacKenzie (five wins on the 12-race card), Mr Martin journeyed first over before wearing down the pacesetter past the one-and-a-quarter-mile marker and kicking away from the field in the final stages for the win in a track and Canadian record time of 3:04. The margin of victory was six and a quarter lengths with Paradise Lane N (Simon Allard) finishing second and Sterling Oaks (Jody Jamieson) third after following the winner’s cover. Pocket-sitter Northern Gaylord (Scott Coulter) was fourth and Bonnie Ronnie grabbed the final cheque finishing fifth.
Mr Martin paid $7.10 to win as the 5-2 favourite. The six-year-old son of Yankee Glide-Sheer Frustration, who won his first leg division on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at Western Fair Raceway, is trained by Peter Marostega for owner Terry Hunter of Troy, Ont. The victory was his sixth of the season in 28 outings and bumped his bankroll to $25,909 for the year and $72,961 lifetime.
The Xtreme Enduro Series for trotters aged four years olds and upward that have started in an $8,000 claiming event or less after August 31, 2010 features field sizes ranging from 14 to 18 horses racing at a distance of one-and-three-eighths-miles to one-and-a-half-miles depending on the track size. Tracks taking part include Flamboro, Georgian Downs and Western Fair.
The Enduro Series will head to Georgian Downs next on Nov. 9 for a one-and-three-eighths endurance test featuring an 18-horse field and will wrap up on Nov. 16 with the championship final.
