'Tracks Not For Sale'
That was Tom Chuckas’ message this morning, as the president of the Maryland Jockey Club responded to David Cordish’s vow to buy Pimlico and Laurel if Chuckas made good on his promise to close the tracks if they lost today’s Anne Arundel casino election
.
“The Maryland Jockey Club facilities are not for sale,” Chuckas said. “As I stated Friday morning, if Question A is approved (which would give Cordish the go-ahead to build out the license he already has for the Arundel Mills Mall) the Bowie Training Center will close, Laurel Park will cease racing activities with live racing in Maryland reduced to 40 days at Pimlico Race Course. These are the facts. Laurel Park will be developed, not sold, according to an existing development plan which includes mixed use commercial and residential. David Cordish knows that. This is just another in a long list of his misrepresentations.”
Cordish told the press that if that happened, he would buy the MJC tracks when the state took them over by eminent domain proceedings.
