Carrino Eyes Bachelor Series Sweep
Umberto Tullio’s Carrino edged out fellow first round winner Lanco Terror in one of three $7,000 Bachelor Pacing Series second leg divisions Saturday night at Kawartha Downs
. The series is for colts and gelding that are non-winners of one race as of Oct. 15, 2010.
Driven by Billy Davis Jr., Carrino wore down pacesetter Cards N Whiskey (Reg Gassien) in the stretch and held off Lanco Terror (Brad Rae) to win in 1:57.1 by a half-length. The three-year-old son of Mach Three-Run The Sail will attempt to pull off a series sweep for trainer Mary Lee Quinn in next week’s finale.
Total Liability and Offshore Drilling also captured their second leg divisions.
Total Liability and driver Brad Rae advanced to the lead from fourth after the opening quarter and cruised to a five and a half length victory in 1:56.1. Brass (Murray Samons) was the runner-up and the other first leg winner, Soyer (Reg Gassien), was third. Paul Simmons trains the three-year-old Aces N Sevens-Ruthless Liz gelding for 1791058 Ontario Ltd. of Port Perry, Ont.
Offshore Drilling angled three-wide past three-quarters and kicked home to win by two and three-quarter lengths over pacesetter Jarretts Boy (Brad Rae) in 1:56.4. Lucan Mercedes (James MacDonald) was third. Gord Brown drove the two-year-old gelded son of I Am A Fool-Precious Angel for trainer-owner John MacMillan.
