Fillies Prep For Three Diamonds
Two-year-old World Record holder Pretty Katherine partook in her third consecutive qualifying race this morning at Mohawk Racetrack, but it was another Casie Coleman-trained juvenile that romped this morning
over the Campbellville, Ont. oval.
Pretty Katherine, with Mark MacDonald in the racebike, took part in the fourth and final race of the morning. The duo started from the rail, sat the pocket through all the fractions (:27.2, :56, 1:25.4) and finished up with a :29 final quarter to record the win. The margin of victory was two lengths and the clock stopped in 1:55.
After having not participated in a pari-mutuel contest since the October 9 Breeders Crown, American Ideal filly Idyllic took part in Race 2 this morning.
With MacDonald at the controls, the filly darted out from Post 1 and carved the fractions in :29.3, :57, 1:25.2. She extended her lead at every call, and with a :28.4 final quarter she sealed the deal with a 25-length win in 1:54.1.
The fillies were taking part in the qualifiers this morning because eliminations were not required for the $501,000 Three Diamonds Stakes. The lucrative stakes event attracted just seven fillies, therefore the elims, which had been scheduled for today, were not necessary. The Three Diamonds is part of the 'Fall Four' stakes, which is also comprised of the Governors Cup, Goldsmith Maid and Valley Victory.
