Murphys' BC Breeders Stakes Completed

A parade of three-year-old stars was on display at Fraser Downs on Sunday afternoon, with filly pacers doing battle in a pair of Mary Murphy BC Breeders Stakes divisions while the colt and gelding pacers went toe-to-toe in a set of Robert Murphy BC Breeders Stakes splits

The colts and geldings were up first, and Kootenay Mike drew first blood taking his $12,500 tilt in 1:56.4 for driver Dave Hudon. The son of Scruffy Ben-Kii Woman laid down fractions of :28. :57 and 1:26 before rambling home in :30.4 en route to the 1:56.4 decision. Sent off as the 6-5 second choice in the wagering, Kootenay Mike knocked off the even-money favourite, Dontmakemebeg, and Tahuya Ruckous.

Kyle Chadwick conditions the gelding for owner/breeder Robert Chadwick of Surrey, BC. The victory was the pacer’s fourth of the season in eight starts, and the lion’s share of the purse lifted his overall earnings to $40,011.

Nobody Can took over command shortly past the quarter pole in the second division, and that proved to be the winning for the son of Kents On Nuke-Battalia Hanover. The gelding laid down middle fractions of :57.1 and 1:26.4 for driver Jim Marino before kicking home in :29.3 for the 1:56.2 tally. Sent off as the 1-5 choice, Nobody Can drew off to win by four lengths over True Humility, and third-place finisher Spartan Law another half-length in arrears.

Bred and owned by J J J Stables of Aldergrove, BC and Alan Anderson of Willows, CA, Nobody Can improved his 2010 record to 5-4-0 in 12 starts while bumping his overall cash stash to $129,951.

Fast Lane Delila took over the lead shortly past the quarter pole for co-owner/trainer/driver Serge Masse, and after laying down fractions of :58 and 1:27.1 she managed to hold on for a nose decision over Margarets Spirit in 1:58.4. Garden Gate Gaitor closed from far back to finish third.

Sent off as the 6-5 favourite, the daughter of Camcracker-Linwood Delila won for the third time this season and for the eighth time in her career. She has managed to stash away $60,404 for Masse and partner James Vinnell of Langley, BC.

Mystic Maiden extended her winning streak to 10-in-a-row thanks to her 1:57 decision in the second division for the tandem of driver Dave Hudon and trainer Justin Currie. The daughter of Camystic-Artfromtheheart rolled to immediate command from post eight and successfully sliced out panels of :27.3, :58.1 and 1:27.1 en route to the 1:57 triumph. Zeballos was second best, with Been Down Before rounding out the top three.

Barry MacFarlane of Powell River and Crimson Racing Stable of Langley, BC share the ownership on the talented sophomore, who is 12-for-13 this year after going 5-for-5 in her freshmen season. The victory boosted her earnings to $72,500.

In other Sunday action, Michael Bourgeois enjoyed a training and driver triple on the 11-race program. He clicked with Red Star Zoro (1:59), Silver Princess (2:00.1) and Mood Light (1:57.2).
