The Bachelor Series Begins At KD

Kawartha Downs' The Bachelor Pacing Series kicked off on Saturday night with three $7,000 divisions

Driven by Billy Davis Jr., 10-1 shot Soyer ($3.10) and driver Reg Gassien converted from the pocket to win the next split by three-quarters of a length over pacesetter Jarretts Boy (Brad Rae) in 1:55.3. No Way Back (James MacDonald) finished 14 lengths back in third. Roger Hie trains and co-ownes the three-year-old Astreos-Legend Of The Sea gelding with Roger Alexander of Baltimore and Londa Robinson of Harwood, Ont. The win was his first in 23 outings.

Gassien found himself back in the winner’s circle after guiding the popular Lanco Terror ($4.10) to a five and a half length victory in 1:57.1 in the final division. Total Liability (Brad Rae) and Senor Suerte (Billy Davis Jr.) finished second and third. William James of the W G James Stables Ltd. trains the two-year-old son of Western Terror-Finespun Yankee. The victory was the gelding’s first in five starts.

The series is for colts and gelding that are non-winners of one race as of Oct. 15, 2010. The second leg will take place on Saturday, Oct. 30 with the final scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6.
