Quebec Concludes With Le 5 Milles
The 10-card 2010 racing season at Hippodrome de Quebec concludes with programs Saturday and Sunday, culminating in the 101st presentation of the track's 10-lap signature event, Le 5 Milles
, on Sunday afternoon.
Last year's victor, Heartthrob, is not in the starting field of 15, but top-three finisher National Angus is. Trainer Rene Allard has pinned his hopes for back-to-back victories on MG Energik, to be driven by his brother Simon. Jocelyn Gendron, who drove Heartthrob last year in place of Simon, will be in the sulky of Ti Pou Mongil this time around.
The purse for the feature is $20,000, and there'll also be a $15,000 invitation pace pitting the likes of track record-holder Royal Becquet and recent 1:52.3 winner at Rideau Carleton, Montreal Phil.
Sunday's program also will feature some of harness racing's biggest names, returning to encourage racing in the province where they got their start. Mario Baillargeon, Michel Lachance, Luc Ouellette, Daniel Dube and Simon Allard are among those scheduled to drive.
Saturday's nine-race card also has an added-distance event of one mile and a quarter.
